One thing I've noticed about money is that sometimes, the opportunities that change your life are the ones you almost ignored. That is why I started this newsletter. A place where I can share personal experiences, things I'm learning, trading, web3, money making opportunities and some things I probably wouldn't post on X. I want you to have access to information that could make a difference in how you think or move.

The Psychology of Winning: How to Think Like a High Performer

Good morning Reader,

The first battle you will ever fight is the one in your mind.

Before you can build a thriving business, master a high-income skill, trade profitably, or build a career you are proud of, you have to understand the instrument doing all the work: your mind.

Most people spend years looking for better strategies, better tools, or better connections while ignoring what runs it all. You can hand the exact same blueprint to two people, one will build a life with it, and the other will talk themselves out of starting before the week is over.

The difference is rarely about talent. It is the conversation that goes on inside their head.

I’ve got something special for you at the bottom of this email. Only a few people will get it, so make sure you get to the end.

How Powerful Your Mind Really Is

Think of your mind in two parts.

The first is the part that thinks, plans, decides, and argues. That is your conscious mind, and you can feel it working when you are solving a problem, writing code, designing a layout, or analyzing a chart.

The second is your subconscious mind. It runs quietly in the background, controlling your habits, your automatic reactions, your confidence, and the things that feel “normal” to you. You do not notice it working, yet almost your entire day runs on it.

Here is what matters the most: your subconscious does not filter bad from good.

It cannot tell the difference between a constructive thought and a destructive one. It does not pause to ask, “Is this belief actually helping me?” It simply takes whatever you feed it repeatedly, accepts it as truth, and builds your behaviour around it.

You have seen this play out in real life:

  • Keep saying “I’m exhausted,” and your body starts feeling heavy before the day even begins.
  • Keep saying “I’m always broke,” and you will unconsciously make financial decisions that keep you in survival mode.
  • Keep saying “This industry isn’t for people like me,” and watch how quickly you hesitate when a real opportunity shows up.

In 2007, Harvard researchers Alia Crum and Ellen Langer studied 84 hotel housekeepers.

They told half the workers a simple fact: their daily physical labour already met the Surgeon General's standards for a healthy, active lifestyle. They changed nothing else. No new diets, no extra exercise, and no adjusted workloads.

Four weeks later, the results were staggering.

The informed group lost weight. Their blood pressure, body fat percentage, and BMI all dropped. The control group saw zero change.

Nothing in their physical routine changed. Only their belief did.

Feed It on Purpose

If your mind gives back whatever you feed it, then what you feed it cannot be left to chance.

Most people feed their minds by accident. They wake up, scroll through tiktok or IG, compare their own process to someone else’s social life, complain about the economy, and replay their worst mistakes over and over and then wonder why their life isn’t heading anywhere.

You have to decide to feed your mind on purpose. Make it a non-negotiable habit to speak intention into your day and into your week.

Here is the chain reaction that governs your life:

  1. Your repetition shapes your beliefs.
  2. Your beliefs form your identity.
  3. Your identity dictates your actions.
  4. Your actions produce your results.

Napoleon Hill called this autosuggestion: the deliberate practice of repeating specific thoughts to yourself until your subconscious accepts them as your default operating system.

If you cannot conceive it in your mind, you will never truly believe it. And if you do not believe it, you will never show up with the consistency required to achieve it. As Hill famously wrote, “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”

Decades later, James Clear approached the exact same truth through the lens of behavioural psychology in Atomic Habits: “True behaviour change is identity change.”

Look at Clear’s classic example of two people trying to quit smoking when offered a cigarette:

  • The first person says, “No thanks, I’m trying to quit.”
  • The second person says, “No thanks, I don’t smoke.”

The first person still identifies as a smoker who is fighting their own nature. The second person has shifted their identity, their behaviour now flows naturally from who they believe they are.

Whether you look at old-school philosophy or modern neuroscience, the first step is identical: Write down who you want to become. Write it in the present tense, as if it is already true. Then repeat it and act on it every single day until your mind accepts it as fact.

Your Mind Fights First

The battle for your success starts before you even have to put the hard work.

Think about your everyday life. Do you see someone you want to talk to, a potential client, a mentor, or someone you find attractive, and simply walk up and introduce yourself? Or do you stand frozen while your mind builds a whole case about why you shouldn’t?

“What if they ignore me? What if I sound stupid? What if people are watching?”

Your legs work fine. Your voice works fine. Nothing stopped you except the narrative you had going on inside your head.

This exact same paralysis shows up in every field:

  • In Freelancing & Business: You see a company that clearly needs your skill. You know you can help them. Then the voice whispers: “They probably have someone better. Why would they pay your rate?” So you close that tab and never send your pitch.
  • In Trading & Investing: The setup is right there on the chart, matching every rule in your trading plan. Then the voice starts: “What if I lose this one too again? I lost the last two times.” By the time you calm down, the move is gone, or worse, you enter late with shaking hands and break your rules.

If you keep taking hits from life and have no system for affirming who you are becoming, you will eventually shrink to fit whatever fears your mind throws at you.

How to Rewire Your Identity: Autosuggestions Across Different Lanes

Affirmations without action are just wishful thinking. The secret to real autosuggestion is pairing who you are becoming (in the present tense) with the concrete action that proves it to your brain.

Your brain does not just believe your words, it believes your evidence.

Here is how to speak and act like a high performer, depending on your lane:

Daily Identity Statements

Declare these out loud every morning and every night, then live them in between.

1. Freelancer / Creative

  • I focus on helping clients make money, save time, and grow their brand, not just on delivering files.
  • I pitch every week, follow up without fear, and state my price clearly without apologizing.
  • When a prospect says no or goes silent, I improve my portfolio and opening message, then reach out to the next business.

2. Builder / Developer

  • When I’m stuck on a bug, a hard equation, or new code, I break it into small parts and solve it step by step.
  • Every time I learn something new, I build a real project with it and write down what I learned.

3. Entrepreneur

  • I focus on what my customers actually need and improve my product every week.
  • I keep honest track of my money, spend carefully, and test small ideas before committing big.
  • I reinvest profits to grow the business.
  • When a launch fails or a deal drops, I review what went wrong without anger, fix it, and keep moving.

4. Trader / Investor

  • I only trade setups that meet every rule on my checklist. When the market is unclear, I do nothing.
  • I risk 1% or less per trade and judge myself by rule-following, not by one win or loss.
  • I plan before the market opens and check my rules before every entry.
  • When I hit my daily loss limit, I close my screen and walk away.

5. Money and Discipline

  • I track every naira in and out, and I save before I spend on wants.
  • I never buy things to impress anyone.
  • I finish my daily goals for work, study, and fitness, even when I’m not in the mood.

6. Student

  • I show up to class, finish assignments early, and study a little every day instead of cramming.

Core Daily Anchors

  • I get 1% better every day by studying problems, practicing, and building.
  • I build wealth daily through the practical value I give to people.
  • I build strong relationships and give real value in every one of them.

Turn Words Into Your New Reality

Do not just read these once and close this.

Pick the five or six statements that match the season of life you are in right now, or write your own using the exact same formula: Present-Tense Identity + Immediate Actionable Proof.

Say them out loud in the morning before the world gets a chance to tell you who you are.

Say them again right before you sit down to work, pitch, build, or trade. Repeat them every single day until the voice of doubt gets quieter and your new standard begins to feel normal.

And above all, back your words up with execution.

Words alone do not pay your bills. The person those words turn you into does.
